COSEE Great Lakes Fresh & Salt Curriculum
This module encompasses 14 diverse lessons connecting Great Lakes topics to ocean science more generally - organized according to the Ocean Literacy standards. Designed to be used by teachers in grades 5-10, this exemplary collection provides teachers with an interdisciplinary approach. A varied range of instructional modes is offered, including data interpretation; experimentation; simulation; interactive mapping; and investigation.

Sea World Animal Resources
Comprehensive site that contains information on adventure camps, educational programs, career resources, conservation matters, and much more. Educators can access information on awards, teacher's guides, classroom activities, publications, workshops, etc. The "Animal Info" link unveils an extensive collection of animal fact sheets and info books, photo galleries, expedition journals, and the "Ask Shamu" FAQs.

Pacific Ocean Shelf Tracking Project
POST is an ambitious project geared towards building a permanent array of listening lines along the Pacific Ocean continental shelf in order to monitor the movement of marine animals. By tracking migration paths and measuring survival, POST will allow scientists to solve the mystery of what happens to animals as they move throughout the ocean. Site contains a wealth of background information on animal tracking, data, publications, video and more.

Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary Education Resources
Located in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary offers its live and virtual visitors an amazing glimpse into the sea. The website includes a variety of downloadable educational materials for teachers and students, as well as information on professional development opportunities. The site also features a sanctuary encyclopedia, which provides information on all of the plants and animals found in the sanctuary, complete with pictures, video, and links.

Every Square Inch Counts
How do scientists measure the abundance of rocky intertidal organisms? How does the subtidal zone differ from the rocky intertidal zone in organisms and abundance? Every Square Inch Counts is an activity that compares the rocky intertidal habitats of Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary to the subtidal benthic habitat in Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary.
Grade Level: High school

Exploring National Marine Sanctuaries: A Lesson in Habitats and Human Impacts
Students will learn about the diverse marine ecosystems found in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and off the coast of American Samoa, and protection of their natural and cultural resources. In the resource, students first learn about the marine sanctuaries and the work in small groups to develop posters. Can be used in both formal and informal education.
Grade Level: Middle school

Encyclopedia of the NOAA National Marine Sanctuaries
Highlighting the diverse marine life of America's ocean and Great Lakes treasures, the Encyclopedia of the Sanctuaries offers photos, streaming video and important facts for more than 100 key animal and plant species from each of the National Marine Sanctuaries. The encyclopedia entry for each species includes a photo, quick facts, information about its diet, habitat, distribution and status, and links to outside resources.

Sanctuary Integrated Monitoring Network (SIMoN)
The SIMoN interactive map feature displays Sanctuary monitoring data in the form of high-end geographic information systems (GIS) and maps. This spatial data is available in a regular browser window and does not require any internet downloads or plug-ins. The user-friendly interface of the SIMoN map viewer makes it easy to use various tools such as zoom in, zoom out, pan, and identify features.

South Carolina Aquarium Online Curriculum
South Carolina Aquarium offers K-8 teachers several activities covering habitats (K-2), communities and ecosystems (3-5), watersheds (6-8), and human impacts (9-12). Though focused on South Carolina's aquatic ecosystems, the activities are applicable outside the state. All activities may be adjusted for other grade levels.

An Introduction to Marine Sciences
An all inclusive introduction to the ocean sciences. The site includes information on habitats, oceanic fauna, oceanographer's tools, and case studies that forecast the future of the ocean. Components of physical and biological oceanography and marine ecology are discussed in depth, and include figures and quiz questions.
