Bay BC's: Teaching About Chesapeake Bay
Multidisciplinary activity guide offers introduction to Chesapeake Bay, its habitats and inhabitants. Discusses threats to the Bay and suggests ways teachers and students can contribute to Bay restoration. Lessons cover: watershed and water resources; Bay habitats; food web; biodiversity and adaptations for survival; human uses of the Bay and its resources. Good line drawings. Targets K-3 learners.

Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS)
CBIBS is a system of buoys placed along portions of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. These on-the-water platforms merge the modern technologies of cellular communications and internet-based information sharing. You can pull out your cell phone and dial up the interpretive buoy closest to your destination - it reports real-time weather and environmental data like wind speed, temperature, and wave height.

Ecosystem Trends and Response: Chesapeake Bay (USGS)
Information on the Chesapeake Bay, the critical issues for its management and restoration, recent dissolved oxygen and SAV trends, and the USGS Ecosystem Response Project. Site includes maps, figures, and links that supplement the project explanations. Website also explores the direct effects of the Bay's changing characteristics.

Chesapeake Bay Program Data Hub
Chesapeake Bay Program's data network providing access to water quality, living resources, fisheries, point source, plankton, and monitoring databases. Site provides a wealth of data and graphs all concerning the health of Chesapeake Bay waters. Features an interactive "bay atlas" where you can access such information as public access sites, habitat restoration sites, water quality monitoring sites, and much more.

ChesSIE: Chesapeake Science on the Internet for Educators
A web-based resource center and communications hub that supports K-12 Chesapeake Bay science education. ChesSIE provides educators with bay-related teaching resources, field trip information, activities, lesson plans, and state resources. Site also features information on workshops, summer programs, grants, and ask a scientist.

Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay
Get involved with this non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay. Site contains descriptions of its programs plus an online version of their newsletter, Bay Journal. Also features information on upcoming events, the latest news, workshops, and the Alliance's flag ship project, River Sojourns. These week long paddling and camping trips celebrate the rich history and ecology of the rivers that make the Bay unique.

Chesapeake Bay Foundation
CBF is the largest conservation organization dedicated solely to saving the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Their motto, Save the Bay, defines the organization's mission and commitment to reducing pollution, improving fisheries, and protecting and restoring Bay resources. Website includes Bay news, fact sheets, Bay glossary, maps, and CBF's annual State of the Bay progress report. Education resources include classroom activities, teacher workshops, and student and adult field trip opportunities.

Maryland Department of Natural Resources: Chesapeake Bay
A comprehensive site on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay monitoring, restoration, and education efforts, plus information on other hot topics such as sea grasses and Pfiesteria. Site features information on harmful algae, bay grass identification, water monitoring, and a Life Guide, which describes the flora and fauna of the Bay. Site also provides information on ways you can help including their Bay Grasses in Classes and Eyes on the Bay programs.

Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ): Chesapeake Bay Program
Learn about the Chesapeake Bay Program, a multi-governmental, interstate, cooperative partnership, and its strategies and action plans to help restore the Bay. DEQ, specifically, works in the general areas of: nutrient point source reduction, toxic substance reduction, and a monitoring program. Site features information on the monitoring program, action plans, and the Water Quality Improvement Fund.

Chesapeake Bay Observing System
An interactive online database containing real-time and archived weather data from stations throughout Chesapeake Bay, with more on the way. Real time parameters include temperature, wind speed and direction, wind gusts, pressure, humidity, and rainfall amount. Archived data points consist of 21 different parameters recorded every 30 minutes.
